Why should someone want to play lacrosse at Central Michigan University?

It is a great post-high school lacrosse experience for those student-athletes who don’t wish to play at the NCAA level. 3. Central Michigan Lacrosse is composed of a great group of guys who combine academics, lacrosse, and a family atmosphere to make playing here a positive experience for everyone involved. 4. Who does the team play?

CMU is a member of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) which is national conference of club lacrosse teams. It is run very much like the NCAA with two separate divisions split by school size and also has eligibility requirements. The MCLA represents schools from all across the country who do not have NCAA lacrosse at their institutions. The teams in the MCLA are run very much like varsity programs at other schools, we just don’t have scholarships to offer. Central Michigan’s spring season schedule usually includes many of the top MCLA programs and prestigious universities throughout the nation such as Virginia Tech, Boston College, Boston University, Illinois, Missouri, Northeastern. Minnesota-Duluth and Lindenwood. CMU’s league schedule in the CCLA (Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association) every year includes The University of Michigan, Michigan State, Eastern Michigan, and Western Michigan. The team takes at least 2 road trips every year to universities around the country and schedules the best competition possible. This year CMU plays four teams ranked in the MCLA Magazine Pre-season Adidas Top 23 poll: #1 Michigan, #6 Minnesota-Duluth, #13 Lindenwood, #20 Michigan State. For more information about the MCLA in general visit: MCLA.us or Collegelax.us

Is there a post-season tournament?

Yes. The last three years Central Michigan Lacrosse has qualified for the CCLA tournament in Saline, Michigan. CMU won their first-round game and made the semi-finals 2 of those 3 years. If CMU would have won the tournament they would have qualified for the MCLA National Tournament in Denver, Colorado.

What facilities do you use?

In the spring season the team practices in the Indoor Athletic Complex (IAC) and also plays home games in that facility. It is a Fieldturf style field that is also used by the varsity athletic teams at CMU. Central Michigan Lacrosse also uses the Women’s Field Hockey field for home games later in the spring, which is an astro-turf style field surface. In the fall the team practices and plays on the athletic club fields, which are natural grass fields and also equipped with lights for competitions in the evening.

How can I join the team?

Become enrolled in Central Michigan University and then contact the coach or president to get the practice times. This is the best way to become a part of the team and also come out to see what CMU Lacrosse is all about.

Can I join after my freshman year?

Definitely. Central Michigan Lacrosse is always looking for new players to come into the program and develop into contributors.

What do I have to do to be eligible to play?

You must be currently enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (Full-Time Student) at Central Michigan University and maintain this throughout the duration of the season.

How much will it cost to play?

This varies depending on the year and number of players that come out for the team. Usually it is between $700-1000 in dues for the year, with a slightly more expensive price for new players because of the cost to buy them new equipment, etc. that returning players already have. This money in dues covers gloves, helmets, warm-ups, bags, road trips, league dues, coaching expenses, apparel, etc. Many teams in our league charge double or even triple what we are asking for in dues for a top-notch lacrosse experience. We feel that we give our players a great experience for their dollar and also do not ask for any additional money later in the season as other programs do. We factor in all of the costs and get a figure at the beginning of the season. If money is ever an issue we have many payment plans available so that all players can play regardless of their financial situation. Central Michigan Lacrosse also does a variety of fundraisers that aid in keeping the team dues down from year to year. We require all of our players to show up and participate in all fundraisers because it is an integral part of this team.

What kind of commitment does it take to play lacrosse for Central Michigan?

Central Michigan Lacrosse requires 3 days a week for practice in the fall and spring seasons with most weekends being left open for competitions. We also require all players to attend fundraisers and team meetings that are throughout both seasons. Many players on the team find it to be the perfect mix of academics, lacrosse, family, and social lives. We encourage anyone interested in CMU Lacrosse to contact us and see if this up and coming program is the right fit for you.
